In Justin's words

After a false start due to a recording mishap, the conversation covers the economics of AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX operating at massive losses while still being highly valued, comparing this to historical high-investment projects like the Manhattan Project and Space Shuttle Program. Mark, from the company HiRey, then gives an intro about his company's shift from traditional recruiting to AI-powered connections, before Justin describes his own background using AI extensively for coding, automation, and content creation such as generating transcriptions for videos.

I didn't start the recording. I didn't start the recording. God. Well, do you wanna restart? Yeah, I'm sorry. Dang. Okay, I guess we can restart. It's okay. We'll keep it short. I'm sorry, man. I totally, I totally dropped the ball there. Yeah, it's okay. No problem. Yeah, maybe I was kind of ranting for a while and I didn't, didn't know what to... Yeah, I don't know, like, I don't know what you're looking for and I don't wanna say something inappropriate. I mean, I know it's like content for your company or whatever. Not at all. No, not at all. It's kind of like an open. This is this isn't like super, super targeted. It's like kind of a think of it like just a chat between two AI enthusiasts, you know, like something kind of organic on our website, on our, on our from our network, you know. And I forgot to ask, are you a coder yourself? I know I've taken coding classes. I know just a basic level of like Python, Java, SQL, this type of stuff. Just like really basic stuff. I can read simple code, and I use AI to code a lot, so I'm familiar with like using it for database projects. You seem to have a good level of knowledge on it. Maybe you're more like you like the practical aspect of AI, like the application. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah, I think like the inner workings of like how machine learning functions and everything like that, that's a little beyond me. I feel like that gets kind of, you see, I bet you know a little bit more about that than I do. But if it's terms of like trying to apply it, I feel like that's kind of a different discipline. But I don't know how much overlap there is between that. I guess there's some, but I think they're kind of different. And yeah, like most people aren't going to be like a researcher or whatever. The people who only who need to know like the super deep are like the the researchers, but most people aren't gonna do that. No, not really. The, and that gets into like statistics and everything like that, I think pretty, pretty quick, right? So. Yeah, and they have, I don't know how much, like OpenAI and Anthropic, they spend like billions of dollars every year on their computers and their, yeah, I don't know. It might be interesting to visit one of those places, but yeah, they, they seem to have endless amounts of money, but it's, it's almost magical because they're like defying the laws of economics because they have like constantly have negative income. Like they, they're, I think most of them aren't even breaking even. They're hoping they'll make money. Yeah, not even close, right? You know, people are talking about AI bubble and so on. I, I think NVIDIA is the only one that's like making a profit. Anyway, yeah, I'm, I don't, I mean, I can't claim to be an expert on knowing when, but it, it is surprising to me that so many companies can lose so much money, yet still, like, most companies would just go bankrupt, but somehow they, they can. It's surprising to me. Yeah. Yeah, you have like a weird anomaly, right? Like kind of one of a, I don't think this has happened since You have a few moments in history where like companies will take an extensive loss. I don't think something uh quite this big, but you have like, you know, the Union Pacific Railroad, you have what else across history? You have the Manhattan Project, stuff like this, but arguably, yeah, arguably AI is probably more influential than that. Where just like a lot of resources are poured into something that, you know, we don't know what the applications are, but we know that it will be paradigm shifting. The Space Shuttle Project, right, and JFK in the 60s. Yeah, good, right, yeah, good point. They, yeah, for sure. Yeah. And even I think SpaceX, I think they lose, it's surprising that they're a $1 trillion company plus, but apparently they lose billions every month, which it's surprising that their IPO was so big. Anyway, yeah, it's, it just seems a lot of modern capitalism is very strange because they can lose massive amounts of money, but still be worth massive. Uh, yeah, I don't know. Maybe that's venture capitalism for you. They have endless money and they don't care about profits. I don't know. Yeah, yeah, you have, it makes sense, you know, if like one of your ideas pays off big, then you know, then it's worth it. So like this kind of philosophy is a little bit different than than a lot of other lines of business. So, you know, but that's uh being able to like pure, but. But more, more power to them. I mean, they're like the CEOs of those companies are literally invited to like meetings with heads of head of states and head of government. So they're basically as powerful as like presidents and kings and prime ministers. I mean, yeah, it's impressive. Yeah, anyway. Technocracy or technocratic, techno, whatever the word is. The, yeah, yeah, you have a lot of, a lot of that. The, you know, the political power and money are kind of inextricably intertwined. The, uh, the, uh, but yeah, so why don't, uh, we'll just redo the intro, and we'll talk a little bit about, we'll just give you a couple of minutes to talk about yourself, what you do with AI, and uh then we'll call it uh for our for our meeting. So go ahead. Right before, just real quick, did you want me to say anything for you? Like, I mean, I, I can be honest, but I, I just didn't want, I don't want to say something that's inappropriate. Like I don't know if what I said previously, if I said something you don't want or uh something you do want. No, not at all. I think what you said before was good. I think, you know, I think you are genuinely excited about the products. I think like in terms of like what I would like you to say is just like, you know, you are an AI agent enthusiast and you do like the prospect of like using AI in these new innovative um ways. And I think that like HiRey kind of fits in that bubble for you, so you can just say that. You can just say, you know, you think that it's a good, it's a good, it's a good, it's an interesting concept, and you know uh and talk about like maybe who you would uh use it to meet, you know, like what type of connections you would be interested in making on our platform. You could just say that. Okay. So I'm Mark. I've been working for HiRey for three years and we uh we had our roots as a, as a recruiting company. Um and we kind of had a different philosophy in that rather than just doing traditional recruitment, we were focused on making connections between people as, as fast as possible, as easily as possible and kind of breaking down the walls of traditional recruitment, which was very difficult. So, you know, uh, it can be kind of daunting for both sides in a recruitment and candidate uh marketplace. So that's kind of how we, uh that was our, our uh focus a few years ago. And now with AI changing everything that's happening in the world, we're really now more so focused on um connecting people to AI agents and using AI in new innovative ways to help make connections between people. So kind of taking advantage of new technology while staying true to our roots. So, um, yeah, I, I use AI every day in my job to, to um manage databases, connect integrations between different platforms, um talk and, and, and make data analysis insights in between different APIs, between different marketing campaigns, um generate new uh content for, for us and all types of stuff. So that's kind of what I do with AI. And then, Justin, I'll, I'll hand it over to you to talk a little bit about what you do and everything like that. Okay, yeah, uh I, I'm Justin. I have a master's in data science and uh I'm a big AI enthusiast. I use AI all the time and uh I use AI uh multiple times a day and I do pretty much almost all my work with AI uh doing anything from AI coding to doing automation and uh Even I make uh content online. I'm a content creator. And a lot of the content I, I do, like, for example, I get transcriptions with AI. Uh, When I make shorts, for example, with, for, for YouTube or Instagram or TikTok, I'll, I'll usually use AI to make the captions, so um the text that's written on the, on the, on the short video and yeah, I'm, I'm just, I'm a big AI enthusiast and uh yeah, there's, there's so much that I, I like about AI these days. That's awesome. The uh so you have a, you have a definitely because you're in tech, uh AI is a big part of what you do right now. I think for everybody in tech, it's like super applicable. So it's like really easy to find ways to like improve uh how you work or improve the quality of your work with AI. So, and then what do you think about HiRey and what do you think about um you know, how you would use this, this type of new product in your uh life? Yeah, I, I think HiRey is uh very uh very promising. I'm looking at the website right now and uh yeah, like I, I previously did some work for you, uh I think a few weeks ago. Uh, the website
